Information and Support

Glasgow Women's Aid has over 35 years experience in supporting women and children experiencing domestic abuse. As such we are able to provide information on a range of relevant issues including:-

  • Housing - we are able to advise women on their housing issues. If relevant, we can refer them to their local Homeless Casework Team. We are also able to provide letters of support for Housing Associations and refer them to solicitors who are experienced in housing legislation.
  • Financial - we are able to advise women on their benefit rights and can contact their local office to clarify any issues/queries that they may have.
  • Legal - we can advise women as to their legal rights (Your Rights link) but will always encourage women to make an appointment with a solicitor.

Any information that we do not immediately have we will do our best to access for you.

 Counselling/Support

Many women who access GWA do so to discuss their experiences around domestic abuse. We will listen to you and believe you. We will not tell you what to do. You can come back to see us as often as you want to.

Glasgow Women's Aid does not provide structured counselling. If you feel that this is something that you would like we can also assist you to access this.

As an organisation we recognise that for many of the women who access us for support domestic abuse will not be their first experience of abuse.

Other recognised forms of Gender Based Violence are:-

  • Childhood Sexual Abuse/ Incest
  • Rape
  • Stalking and Harassment
  • Commercial Sexual Exploitation
  • Rape as a Weapon of War
  • Female Genital Mutilation
  • Forced Marriage
